The toxicity hazards of fire retardants and fire retardant nylons should be considered. The interaction of melamine cyanurate flame retardant and nylon leads to the decrease of the stability of nylon and makes the degradation products different from those produced by flame retardant or nylon alone. Table 4-17 shows the types and contents of the main volatile components measured at the mouth of the casting strip during extrusion processing of various flame-retardant nylon 66 formulations.
